Premier League Predictions, Week 30

© Micah Veldkamp, 2021

Welcome back to our predictions, Premier League fans, and wishing you all a good Friday! That's right, I'm back again. Yes, it has only been a few days. Thanks to our midweek makeup games, this is the third time in a week you're hearing from me, and will be for many clubs, their third match in that timespan.

In case you can't remember my predictions from a whopping three days ago, I made like all the clubs ranked 3-20 in the Premier League, and ping-ponged back from a bad week to a very good one. My semi-audacious prediction that Nottingham Forest would steal a road win in a relegation battle royale at Leeds didn't pan out, but my predictions of Brighton, Manchester United, and Newcastle victories did, as well as my projection of another sloppy Chelsea-Liverpool draw. My 4/5 slate, the second in the last three, lifts me back up to 50/95.

But hey, the midweek games are less than 12 hours away from kicking off, so no time for premature congratulation. Here are your 5 for Week 30!

Manchester United vs. Everton

Relegation-threatened Everton come in on a 4-match unbeaten streak which includes draws against Chelsea and Tottenham. But United finally picked up a big, much-needed win in the midweek over Brentford. Their rediscovered winning ways and home field advantage will be too much for the Toffees to overcome.

The Pick: Man United, 2-0

Brentford vs. Newcastle United

Newcastle emphatically answered skeptics about whether they were truly back in the Top 4 race with a dominant win over West Ham, their third straight victory. Brentford, meanwhile, missed out on an opportunity to get points on a Top 4 club in their narrow loss to Man United. The Bees may not get the win over an in-form Newcastle, but I don't think they'll let a second straight opportunity slip through their fingers at home.

The Pick: Draw, 2-2

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Brighton & Hove Albion

Tottenham's shock draw with Everton on Monday made it just 1 win from the Spurs' last 6 (in all competitions), continuing a frustrating season for the North Londoners, who just can't seem to keep their footing in the Top 4 race. Brighton's surprise Top 4 bid, meanwhile, stayed alive with a comfortable win over Bournemouth. I don't see the Gulls coming into Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and winning, but as perpetual tormentors of bigger clubs, I certainly can see them sneaking out with a point.

The Pick: Draw, 2-2

Southampton vs. Manchester City

Manchester City have scored more than three times than Southampton have this season, and are in the thick of a title race, while their opponents sit in last place. This one may be over by the 4th minute.

The Pick: Man City, 5-0

Liverpool vs. Arsenal

It's hard to overstate just how much the shoe is on the other foot in this matchup between two of the major clubs in all of football. In nearly the entirety of the Jürgen Klopp era, Arsenal have been the side middling about in the lower end of the Top 10, while Liverpool contend for Premier League and Champions League trophies. With less than ten matches in the 2022-23 season remaining, though, the Reds are sitting in 8th place, while the Gunners cling to an 8-point lead atop the table. Liverpool are a much, much different team at Anfield than away this season, to the point that them losing this one would still be a huge surprise to me. But I can't exactly look at the forms of both teams, nor what's at stake for Arsenal, and feel confident in a victory for the hosts.

The Pick: Draw, 1-1
