Premier League Predictions, Week 13

© Micah Veldkamp, 2018

It feels like it's been such a long time since we've seen Premier League action. We had an International break last weekend, and have had so many American football and basketball happenings since then, I've almost forgotten what Sadio Mané's majestic tiger stripe haircut looked like. But thankfully, we get back to business tomorrow.

You may not remember this because it was an eternity ago, but last time out, I went 2 for 4. I picked solely the Sunday matches, and did not foresee the surprise draws by Wolverhampton and Everton over Arsenal and Chelsea, respectively. That drops my record to a 36 for 49. Now, the matches are less than 12 hours away from starting, so let's not waste any time groveling. Here are your 5 for Week 13!

West Ham vs. Manchester City

Manchester City have started to reach 2017-18 levels of quality. And the scariest part is, they have barely had a healthy Kevin De Bruyne or Vincent Kompany. West Ham seems to be good for a couple shock results each season, but this...would be something else.

The Pick: Manchester City, 4-0

Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace

These two teams have been hard to figure out. Manchester United in more extreme cases, but both had high preseason hope, started disastrously, and now have somewhat turned it around. However, that turnaround for both teams has never included consistent results. Still, United appear to have the clearer upward trajectory, and they have the more talented side.

The Pick: Manchester United, 2-1

Watford vs. Liverpool

This is the trappiest of trap games for the Reds. It has all the ingredients that have tended to spell disaster: it's coming off an international break, it's on the road, it's not a 'Big 6 opponent,' but it's a side that's good enough to pull off a win. Liverpool drew at Vicarage Road to start the season last year, and that's what I'll predict again. Both for the aforementioned reasons, but also because I've picked Watford matches incorrectly all year, and I don't want to jinx my Reds.

The Pick: Draw, 1-1

Bournemouth vs. Arsenal

It's not the marquee matchup of the week, but this could actually be the most entertaining match of the slate. The 5th and 6th placed teams in the League both are playing terrific team attacking play, and have proven to be a tough out for any side. Expect a very competitive match, especially with the underdog Cherries hosting. If Arsenal hadn't just dropped points to Wolves last time out, I'd project Bournemouth getting at least a draw out of this, but I just can't see the Gunners with 2 consecutive disappointments.

The Pick: Arsenal, 3-2

Tottenham vs. Chelsea

The London derby is certainly the most anticipated match of them all, and is always a big occasion. This feels urgent for Spurs in particular, though. They're not far off the top of the table-- in fact, just one point behind Chelsea -- but if they are to have any chance at something greater than the Battle For 4th Place, they need a win against their crosstown rivals, especially because they have not looked the part against most Big 6 opponents this season. Unfortunately for Tottenham, I don't think tomorrow improves that. Chelsea has looked a cut above most all year, and after the disappointing goalless draw with Everton last time out, they'll be every bit the aggressor tomorrow in Wembley.

The Pick: Chelsea, 2-1
